I have a Toshiba SATELLITE laptop. I updated the BIOS to version 2.0 and it was still working. I attached it to my TV using HDMI but after I unplugged the laptop the touchpad stopped working.
The touchpad driver showed as a Hidden device in Device manager and shows this error on clicking its details : Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer.
I did the following troubleshooting:
1. I tried solving the problem at the BIOS level
but the touchpad works in the bios setup(before the OS loads). There is no option of tweaking anything in the BIOS to make it work. So I don't think it is a hardware problem at all.
2. I did a clean installation of Ubuntu 16 but still the problem was there. I removed Ubuntu and then installed Windows 10 again it still doesn't help. Itdoesn't even shows me touchpad in device manager now
3. I have pressed the Fn+F5 key a thousand times and it doesn't help.
4. I have installed Synaptics and Elan drivers too for this from Toshiba website, it installs successfully but nothing happens. I have installed Toshiba Function Key software too but it also doesn't help.
I have literally ran out of options. Please help me out. It might be a registry issue but I can't diagnose it.
