For the past couple of months, my machine has been experiencing persistent freezes. What happens is that while in the middle of doing something (gaming etc.) the mouse will stop moving, the screen locks, and then a few seconds later the monitor goes into sleep mode. The computer keeps running, but nothing will wake the screen, and I am forced to switch off and then on again. This cycle can go on for 5 or 6 occasions in quick succession, or just the once, and then the machine will work ok for a while.
What have I tried to do?
In the Events Viewer, the persistent error entry relates to Code 10016 DCOM. In researching this, it didn't appear this could cause the crashes / freezing, but I took steps to solve the issue by modifying the permissions in Component Services. Now although I have done this for the user identified in the error message, a number of times, the freezing continues.
I also carried out a 'Refresh' of my system, using the tools in Windows 10.
I checked the integrity of my SSD system drive, and it's all good.
Am I missing an error code, or message, and being led astray by the 10016 error reported in Events Viewer? Should I be looking elsewhere for the cause of the issue?
It all seems to have started since the April update.
Anyone else had similar issues?
Any suggestions gratefully received!
Regards,
Conrad.
