Hello
I have a Sony Viao laptop running Windows 10 Home - installed automatically as the machine came preinstalled with Windows 8.
Recently I've started having trouble with it, first lost all the Tiles shown upon the Start menu, which meant I couldnt launch Edge. Created a new user id, and the Tiles were there.
Now, the laptop is getting rather hot and I can hear the fan tripping in, the problem appears to be 2 svchost.exe processes running at 25% CPU apiece. The last OS Update had apparently been installed back in 2016/11/13.
I've tried a number of things.
* Ensuring wuaserv, bits, & DcomLaunch services are auto started, and bouncing them.
* "sfc /scannow" and "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" commands, both fine no issues
Neither worked.
Then I tried :
Stopping the Windows Update Service, and renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder. After restarting, I see 5 updates, which took several hours to download and install. However following hitting Restart I'm left with a seemingly perpetual message (in Japanese)
"Do not turn off the Computers Power".... this is a bit troubling, as the Computer may have actually crashed.
What next ? I don't have a rebuild CD, as the OS was pre-installed and auto-updated. What options do I have open to me ?
