Signing into Skype with Windows 10

I have a laptop with Windows 10 that came with Skype.  I don't recall using it with this machine.  When I try to sign in, Skype wants my Microsoft Account.  When I sign in with that, it goes to an account page, even thought the Skype logo is in the upper left corner.  The only option on the menu bar is to close.  How do I get Skype itself to open so I can make a call.
