Desktop monitor and Video card

I am intending to buy a new 24 inch monitor for my 8 year old desktop PC.

Some monitors on offer go up to 3840x216 pixels

Is there any point in buying a resolution higher than my present (integrate with board) graphics cardseems to support?

Your advice will be greatly appreciated.
