Word question a paragraph symbol yet text stays on same line

Hi

I noticed a Word document that had one line of text with a  paragraph symbol inserted in between the word on that one line so the first half of the line could be formatted with one style and the second half of the line could be formatted with another style

I think it has to do with something built into the style cause I could not find a symbol that does this.

Any insight much appreciated!
