Office Outlook

I currently use Office Outlook to access Yahoo Mail.  Recently, I changed the Yahoo Mail password but I didnot have to change/update the password in Outlook.  Outlook continued to work as it always had without having to change the password.  I don't understand why I did not have to change the password in Outlook to access Yahoo Mail.
