Have owned and used Windows 7 Professional system in a HP PC since June 2014. The PC was previously owned by a friend who returned home.
Kept it current with updates. No virus problem.
I took Microsoft's offer for free upgrade to Windows 10.
After installing 10, found that my devices (printer and scanner) were not compatible.
Rolled back to Windows 7. Detected this notice at bottom rt hand corner of my screen:
Windows 7 Build 7601 This Copy of Windows is Not Genuine.
The PC is still running fine. Even received update. Can access the Internet and web sites. I did a pre-upgrade system restore from a backup drive. Without success.
Have Product ID and a Recovery Disc (from previous owner). Haven't tried running it.
Why didn't this surface earlier during the 19 months I used the system ?
How did the system qualify for free upgrade offer ?
Had it not been for incompatibility of devices I would have continued with 10.
Is there a fix ?
What are my options ? Return to 10 and replace the printer and scanner ?
Shall be grateful for assistance.
Thank you.
