I have a copy of Office 2016 (365) through my school. I have spent 2 weeks trying to solve this issue with their IT department, with no success. Below is the issue.
I am running Windows 10..
I open Excel or any other office product and it shows me as signed in but the activation window pops up. Now at this point a couple different things can happen.
#1 I enter my school email address and it closes the "Activate Office". Another Excel window opens on the task bar which has only the icon, no text.. At this point I cannot interact with Excel at all. If I hover over the primary excel application on the
taskbar and move it over the preview thumbnail, it shows the "Activate Office" window still open.. When I try to move to it, it disappears. If I close the "Ghost" Excel window, it closes no problem. At this point I am unable to interact with Excel, but if
I try to close it, it says "Cannot quit Excel".. I have to go into task manager details, and end task on the excel.exe process. I found when this happens, if I open task manager before closing the "ghost" window, it shows a process of "Work or personal account?"
.. if I end task on that, it closes the ghost window, but still behaves as previously mentioned.
#2 I enter my school email. The window goes away, and then it gives me an error saying "Sorry we ran into a problem while trying to install the product key. if this keeps happening; you should try repairing your office product" System Error: 0x80070005.
I click repair, and it goes through the same loop.
#3 I enter my email, it asks if it is a work/school or personal account. I indicate work/school, it pulls up my school's login screen, I enter my credentials, and it then behaves like instance #1. (It does authenticate, as if I enter an incorrect PW, it
gives me invalid UN/PW error)
I have checked on my portal and it shows my system as having office installed and activated on it. When I click on file > account, it does not give me the "Activate office" option. It looks as if it is already activated.
I have checked and made sure both my OS, and Office are up to date.
I have ran OFFCAT, and it shows no errors.
I have tried activating with AV, and firewall turned off. Same issue.
I have tried running MS SARA.
I have gone through https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/odsupport/2015/05/01/how-to-reset-an-office-365-install-to-the-initial-activationinstall-state/
I have uninstalled both manually, and using MS Removal tool.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
