I'm trying to search legal text for letters in parentheses (x) that begin each paragraph, much like an outline. Example:
(a) subdivision a
(1) subparagraph 1
I tried, using Find and Replace, the following: ^13\([a-z]\) to find subdivisions beginning with and single lowercase letter from a to z and enclosed in parens. The find step located the first paragraph, (a), but failed to find any other paragraphs. I then tried the search in steps:
^13 found every occurrence of a paragraph return
^13\( found every paragraph return followed by (
^13\([a-z] found every paragraph return followed by ( and any lowercase letter from a-z
^13\([a-z]\) found only paragraph returns followed by (a). Other paragraphs beginning with (b) through (z) were not found.
However, substituting [0-9] for [a-z] works perfectly!
I'm stumped.
System is Win 7 Professional and the latest version of Word 2016.
