I've been having a slew of issues since recently installing an Intel 540s 240gb SSD as my new C:\ in win7u , x64.
Let me preface by saying I'm a major fan of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and so, on my old HDD, barely ever updated drivers, system updates etc.
I thought I'd run the updates, newest drivers I could, on the SSD leaving my old drive as a backup.
So, timeline of current issues:
fresh install on 5/15 + 5/16.
5/18 new headphones arrived.
- Audio randomly but frequently static. It'd play perfectly fine for 8+ hours on speakers, but swapping to headphones then whenever a beep or sound occured, it would be accompanied by a static pulse, and then a static banshee shriek at which point I'd lose
sound entirely, and then regain it like nothing happened ~20s later. Ruled out new headphones, tried different devices, pretty sure it's the sound card.
After research, I uninstalled the creative software & rebooted. On the old drive I never actually installed the creative drivers (laziness mostly). I was greeted by thishttp://i.imgur.com/RHHUld5.jpg kernel missing you done goofed message.
Repaired via usb boot; didn't do anything. Windows repaired the boot entry but wouldn't detect C:\ or D:\ in list of windows installations to repair.
Booted via last known good config.
My realtek ethernet adapters + wireless usb dongle drivers were mysteriously missing. Installed but not detected.
Uninstalled + reinstalled, worked ok.
Sound so far is okay, but haven't really given it enough time to say 100%.
Checked event log: I have 900+ "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0." atapi errors starting about 13h ago, which would be the ssd.
CrystalDiskInfo shows all green. No errors, everything peachy. From reading, this error is commonly associated with stuff corrupting which may explain my kernel suddenly being corrupted/not there, so maybe cause/effect but I don't know what to do now. My mobo
is a msi p67s-c43, and only has 2x 6gb/s ports (and 4? slower ones), which both my drives are plugged into.
There haven't been anymore atapi errors since this last known good config reboot (I'd also reseated the SSD cable prior to that), but I'm obviously worried. The ssd is only a few days old. Had no atapi errors with HDD in slot0 previously, though there is a
possibility the mobo ports were damaged when I had to wrangle the sata cables out (the metal part you depress to unlock it doesnt depress fully).
I have no spare cables, though I could swap the ones between C:\ and D:\.
As far as I've been able to gather, the controller error means: controller damaged/fubar = replace mobo; cables could be bust = swap/replace cables; drive is dying = rma. But wouldn't S.M.A.R.T via crystaldiskinfo show some sort of error if the ssd was dying?
Is there anything else I can try? I want to wait & see if the errors come back before starting diagnostics again, so I'll order new cables in the meantime, but I don't know what else I oughta do. Kernel kaput is the worst thing I've had gone wrong so far
so I want to like, be thorough with it.
I also have this new, reoccurring warning "Event 1530, User Profile Service", viewable: http://puu.sh/vVj2x/d1cc196281.png
That I haven't been able to find anything conclusive about through searching.
