Having problems with Excel 2016 accessing the company network drives from home on my Mac; Double clicking a file saved on a network drive over the internet will not open the file. For example word will launch and display an error message:
"Excel could not open "XXXX" because some content is unreadable. Do you want to open and repair this workbook?
If Excel cannot repair the file, some data may be lost."
Files can be accessed if they are moved to the desktop from the network drive. Files will open on double click from desktop.
Likewise, it is not possible to save Excel 2016 documents from my Mac to the network drive. An error message is also generated for this:
"Microsoft Excel cannot access the file '/Volumes/idrive/Admin/xxxxxxxxx'
There are several possible reasons:
• The file name or path name does not exist.
• The file you're trying to open is being used by another program. Close the document in the other program, and try again.
• The name of the workbook you're trying to save is the same as the name of another document that is read-only. Try saving the workbook with a different name."
I am currently able to open word 2016 documents for Mac from the network drive, but they only open as read only documents. I cannot save word documents to the network drive. If I save a word document I get an error message:
"This file is read-only. To save a copy, click OK, and give the document a new name in the Save dialog box.
(XXXX)"
The word document will then appear on the network drive, but if opened again it is blank and has no content.
Opening PDF documents from the network drive and saving PDF documents to the network drive is not proven to be a problem.
Any help with this would be much appreciated.
