I am someone who has used Skype for many years and it has been an invaluable tool. There have always been some little glitches, but overall the experience is good. But ever since the new update, the overall experience I have with Skype has been almost always
negative. Tonight has been the worst it has ever been, which has prompted me to write.
I almost always use Skype on my Android phone, which is a Sony Xperia Z5 Premium. I always call when on 4G, on which I have unlimited data. I use 4G as the upload speeds are always the best and I have found before that when comparing using my broadband connection
and 4G side by side, 4G always wins. I also always keep my phone updated, installing the latest updates as soon as they become available. I am using Android 7.0 and Skype version 8.1.0.46142.
The problems which I have been having, which have been the worst tonight, is firstly calling a contact who is shown as being online and who I know from messaging them on Whatsapp is logged on to Skype. They do not get any notification that I am trying to
call and from my end it keeps on making a dialling sound then says "No answer." They will then call me and it will ring on my end, I can then answer the call.
Another issue is video and sound freezing. This happens in one way or another 99% when I make a call. But there is no reason for this to happen. I am calling on 4G, where the upload speed as measured by the "Speed Test.net" app as being almost always at
least 20mbps. The person who I most often call is using their home internet connection with upload speeds even faster than mine. As far as I can work out, as someone who has a good understanding and usage of this type of technology, it is a problem integral
to the Skype software.
There are other times when I will be having a video call which is going perfectly fine, then suddenly will freeze and then cut off. This is despite the set-up I detailed above and no change in this (e.g. someone else at my friend's location using the internet
and taking up bandwidth)
Can anyone advise of what can be done, or can this be raised to the Skype technical team? I love this service, but all the little glitches which were with the old version have been made much worse with the new one
