Several weeks ago something malevolent seemed to find its way onto my system, succeeding in disabling my McAfee. It seemed to affect some of my data files,so I had to spend an inordinate amount of time I'd rather have devoted to something else checking through
them all and replacing any damaged ones from my most recent backup. I found that some infected items causing trouble were in the Recycle Bin and got rid of those simply by emptying the Recycle Bin. I downloaded an ran the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software
Removal Tool and it flagged up 70 infected files. 1 of these cropped up less than a minute and a half into the scan, the other 69 were in McAfee directories c:\Users\pc\AppData\Local\Temp\McInstall Temp and \McTemp. After checking online that it was safe to
do so,I was able to locate and delete those two directories (to the Recycle Bin,then emptying it straight away). Upon running the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool again,it flagged up the 1 infected file that comes up near the beginning of the scan, but
the other 69 have gone. Also,my McAfee had become usable again. After doing a McAfee scan and going online for some things including obtaining any available updates,I ran the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool and that 1 infected file is still there
(and I have a sneaking suspicion that it could contain the head of the snake!) Unfortunately although the tool does flash through what it's searching on screen that one example flies by too fast, like in a split second, for it be possible for me to catch which
file and path it is.
So in short what I need, and this is something that it would help if the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool provided,in a list after completing or whatever,is either a remedy that will remove that 1 infected item or at the very least a list of some
kind that you can peruse afterwards of any infected file(s) with their paths so that you can find out what they are, have a file, folder and directory path to where they are located and take the requisite steps to achieve their removal. Many thanks.
